Holbrook participated in the Be Like Nat Tournament over the weekend, joining 14 other teams in the two-day event. The Roadrunners were placed into a pool with two familiar foes, Tuba City and Chinle. Holbrook had played both teams in regular season play just two weeks ago, dropping both matches in five-game sets.
In pool play action on Friday, Holbrook fell again to both clubs, but this time it was in two straight games in both matches. They did pick up a 2-0 win over Pima in pool play on Friday as well.
Holbrook’s pool play record placed them into the Silver Bracket of the tournament where they got a first-round bye on Saturday morning. Their second-round game was a 1-2 loss to Show Low. That loss dropped them down in the bracket where they defeated Pima 2-1, then advanced to beat Blue Ridge 2-1. Their final bracket play was a second loss to Show Low again in three sets 1-2.
Prior to the tournament, Holbrook played at Ganado on Monday of last week where they swept the Hornets in three straight games 26-24, 25-14, and 25-22. That win moved Holbrook’s regular season record to 3-2.
This week they will play at Blue Ridge on Tuesday, then travel to Show Low on Thursday. Friday and Saturday they will play in their third and final invitational tournament of the season when they participate in the large Epic Tourney Invited held in Chandler.
Following the tournament Holbrook will host Winslow on Sept. 26, which is the same day the initial 3A Power rankings will be released.
