The Lady Roadrunners need a few more wins to reach the top 24 in the 3A volleyball standings and secure a postseason berth. Holbrook ranked 33rd last week, before their big north region win over visiting Chinle on Friday afternoon. With that win, they should move a little closer to that coveted 24th spot.
The week didn’t start well for the Lady Birds when they fell to sixth-ranked Tuba City on Tuesday evening. The Warriors controlled the game from the onset, winning in three games: 25-14, 25-17 and 25-15.
Holbrook made up for that loss with a big home-court win over Chinle. Holbrook dropped the first game 20-25 but bounced back to win the second 25-11. Chinle went back on top with a 17-25 win in game three. Holbrook then rallied to win the final two games, 25-18 and 15-11 in the fifth.
Holbrook hits the road twice this week before competing in the Joseph City Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Monday, they will be in Round Valley, then Wednesday the team travels to Window Rock to take on the 20th-ranked Lady Scouts. Next week, Holbrook will only play once, when they travel to Alchesay on Thursday.
Holbrook has a regular season record of 4-8 heading into this week’s action.
