The fifth-ranked Lady Lobos have three volleyball matches left on their regular season schedule and with all three of those opponents currently ranked outside the top 16 in the 3A rankings, their chances of remaining in the top five look pretty solid.
Last week the team wrapped up yet another region title with wins over Show Low and Blue Ridge. They did, however, fall to top-ranked Valley Christian at the end of the week.
Hosting Show Low on Tuesday night, the Lobos cruised past the 13th-ranked Cougars in three straight games. Two days later they took care of No. 20 Blue Ridge also in three games: 25-18, 25-17, and 30-28 in the exciting third game.
Friday night they hosted top-ranked Valley Christian. The Trojans came in with a 13-0 regular season record. Snowflake battled tough against a team they may well see again in the postseason. The visitors won the first game 25-21, but the Lobos flipped that score in game two tying the match at 1-1. The Trojans controlled game three 25-17, then closed out the match winning game four 25-20.
Snowflake’s only two regular season losses have come to teams both of which are still in the top three. Gilbert Christian is currently ranked third and defeated the Lobos in the first match of the year. Following that loss, Snowflake put together a 12-match win streak snapped by Valley Christian.
This week the Lobos host Alchesay on Tuesday, then will travel to face Benjamin Franklin in the Valley on Thursday. They conclude the regular season next Wednesday in Holbrook. Snowflake is 8-0 in region play, 12-2 in regular season action, and 25-9 overall.
