Snowflake’s boys team sits in the top spot in the fall soccer rankings after a 5-1 home win over Round Valley on Thursday evening. The Lobos’ 4-0-1 regular-season record puts them one-tenth of a point ahead of second-place Blue Ridge. Show Low is third, St. Johns is fourth, and Northland Prep rounds out the top five of the initial rankings.
The Lobos will put that top spot on the line twice this week. Tuesday, they travel to St. Johns to take on the fourth-ranked and only once-beaten Redskins. Thursday will be a long road trip to face the seventh-ranked Willcox Cowboys, who sport a 4-2 record.
Next week, Snowflake plays at Blue Ridge on Tuesday, then travels to Show Low the following day.
Like the boys’ team, the Lady Lobos are also highly ranked, holding the third-place ranking with a 6-1 record. St. Johns is ranked first at 5-0-1, and Northland Prep holds the same record in second place.
Snowflake picked up two wins last week, securing a 4-0 shutout victory over visiting Chino Valley on Monday, then gave up just one goal in a 4-1 road win over Round Valley in the dome on Wednesday. Chino Valley was ranked 10th, and the Elks were ranked seventh.
This week, Snowflake will find the going a little tougher when they host second-ranked Northland Prep on Tuesday, then remain home Thursday for a match with fifth-ranked Blue Ridge. This week, the Ladies play just once, with a short trip to Show Low on Thursday. Following that, they will have only one regular-season match left on their schedule when they travel to Payson on Oct. 20.
