The Lobos faced a tough test on the court last week, facing the top two-ranked teams in 3A volleyball. Snowflake is also ranked fifth, but there appears to be a clear gap between the top two and the rest of the conference.
Hosting top-ranked Gilbert Christian on Tuesday, the Lobos fell in three straight games: 25-15, 25-17 and 25-10. The Lady Knights are 25-1 overall this season and have to be favored to win the 3A state title.
Playing in Chandler on Thursday night against second-ranked Valley Christian, the Lobos again fell in three straight games. These games were closer, though. They dropped the first game 23-25, fell in the second 13-25, but played tougher in the third before losing 19-25.
Macy Shelton led the team with 8 kills, Brazia Stradling added 7, Josie Clare 6, and Aubree Denhalter had 5. Clare also served 2 aces, and Kinzie Flake had 1.
Lucy Lyman led the way in digs with 16 from her Libero position. Alyse Kay added 16 assists, and Kinzie Flake added 10.
This week, Snowflake, now 22-7 overall and 10-4 in regular-season games, plays just once when they host Show Low on Tuesday night. The Cougars are ranked 27th.
Next week, the Lobos wrap up their regular season hosting eighth-ranked Blue Ridge on Monday, then traveling to face No. 4 Payson on Tuesday.
