The identities of the shooting suspect and two women who were killed Tuesday, June 28, at the Navajo County Governmental Complex in Holbrook have been released by law enforcement.
The shooter, identified as Salomon Diaz, 47, of Snowflake, opened fire on several women at the entrance to the complex after a custody hearing in the courts. Two of victims Ashley Utley, 25, and Sherry Quintero-Davenport, 45, died at the scene. A third victim, Angela Chambers, 68, was injured. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The incident began at around 5 p.m. Tuesday when Diaz, the paternal grandfather of the children involved in the custody battle, accosted Utley, who is the mother of the children, Quintero-Davenport, the maternal grandmother, and Chambers, an aunt of the children, at the entrance of the courts.
Moments later law enforcement responded to a report of shots fired at the entrance of the complex, and the facility was placed on lockdown for about an hour as police searched for the suspect, who was found on the south side of the complex and arrested without incident.
Diaz has been booked into the Navajo County Jail. He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of second degree murder.
The Navajo County Homicide Task Force is continuing to investigate the shootings.
