The Navajo County Fair Board has elected two new members to their board, Dale Rogers, a Snowflake resident employed by United Parcel Service, and Leah Thomas, a Holbrook resident who is employed as a judicial assistant with Navajo County Superior Court. The entire board was present at the Nov. 3 meeting with the exception of Alberto Peshlakai.
The two individuals were selected to replace board members Angela Keene and Kameron Edwards, who cited personal reasons when submitting their resignations from the board.
Another position will be filled at the board’s next meeting due to the resignation of Peshlakai, who is resigning in order to run for political office. That meeting will be held on Thursday, Dec. 8, due to conflicts in board member schedules with the regular meeting date. A letter of intent for that position has been received from Valerie Slade of Holbrook. All interested individuals must submit their letter of intent by Nov. 24, be a resident of Navajo County for at least one year and be sponsored by a seated board member.
In other business, the board agreed to allow Tolani Roping Productions to host its annual roping event March 2-4, 2012, at the fairgrounds. The group will be hosting a roping event as well as a dance, but will not be hosting a pow wow as they did last year. That event brought in an unexpectedly large crowd, with participants coming from as far away as Canada.
