Snowflake’s boys soccer team finished the regular season with an 8-3 record, ranking them fifth in the final regular season PowerPoint standings. As the fifth seed, they will travel to face fourth-seeded Willcox on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
The Cowboys finished the regular season with a record of 10-1, with their only loss coming against Highland Prep West, who is the sixth seed in the bracket. Willcox enters this match-up on a 10-game winning streak. The Lobos’ last loss this season came against the number one seed in the bracket, Chino Valley, on Oct. 9. This will be their first meeting with Willcox.
If Snowflake can get past Willcox they will face the winner of No. 1 Chino Valley and No. 8 Benson.
No. 3 Show Low hosts No. 6 Highland Prep West, and No 2 Madison Highland hosts No. 7 Payson in the other half of the bracket. The higher-seeded winners will host the semi-final round on Thursday. The state championship match will be played on Saturday afternoon at Westwood High School.
The Lady Lobos finished the season with a record of 8-3-1 after battling Payson to a 3-3 overtime tie on Wednesday last week in their regular-season finale. That tie left the Lobos ranked fourth in the final rankings, meaning they will now host Blue Ridge in the play-in match on Tuesday night. The Yellowjackets are the No. 5 ranked team. The teams split their two meetings held this year.
Third-ranked Payson will host No. 6 St. Johns in the other play-in game on Tuesday. The winner of the play-in games will advance to the semifinal round, which will be played at the sites of the higher-seeded teams.
If Snowflake wins they will most likely have to take on top-ranked Northland Prep in Flagstaff on Thursday night. The girls state championship match will also be played at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Westwood High School.
