The Lobo boys soccer team has finished their regular season and will now await their final ranking to determine who and where they will play in the first round of the 2A fall soccer state tournament.

Snowflake won their final two matches of the regular season last week. Hosting No. 16 St. Johns on Tuesday, they shut out the visitors 4-0. The final game was two days later in Lakeside, where they took down the 15th-ranked Yellowjackets 4-1.

Snowflake currently sits in the No. 4 ranked position. With eight teams advancing to the state tournament and with a few games left to be played around the state this week, the Lobos are hoping to be able to host at least a first-round match as the higher seeds host both first and second rounds in soccer. Just the championship match is played on a neutral site at Westwood High School.

Snowflake finished the regular season with an 8-3 record. Their only three losses were to No. 1 Chino Valley, No. 2 Madison Highland and No. 8 Payson.

The tournament begins on Oct. 29, with the semi-finals two days later and the championship match slated for Nov. 2.

The Lady Lobos are also currently 8-3, however, they have one final regular season match vs No. 3 Payson on Wednesday. Their only losses were to No. 1 Northland Prep, No. 2 Show Low, and No. 6 Blue Ridge.

Last week they avenged that Blue Ridge loss with a 7-2 road win on Tuesday. That win helped them stay in the No. 4 ranked position heading into this week’s final game.

In girls soccer, only the top six in the final rankings advanced to post-season action. The top two teams earn a bye, while teams ranked third through sixth, have a play-in game to see who the final four are.

The girls’ play-in matches are on Oct. 29, at the sites of the higher seed. The semi-finals are on Oct. 31, also at high-seed sites, and the championship match is on Nov. 2, at Westwood High School.
