The Lady Lobos are off to a 1-2 regular season start. When taken at face value, that doesn’t look good for what is typically one of the best 3A teams in the state. However, a closer look at that record shows the Lobos’ two losses are to two of the other best teams in the state.
They dropped their season opener to Gilbert Christian, then on Thursday, they fell to Valley Christian in three games, two of which were highly competitive.
The Trojans took the first game 26-24, then outlasted Snowflake 27-25 in the second game. Game three saw the home-town Trojans close out the match with a 25-17 win.
Alyssa Peterson led the team in kills with 8. Ryah Denhalter finished with 6. Hailey Jones served 3 aces, and Amrie Lewis added 2. Mairead Stradling was strong at the net with 8 blocks. Denhalter added 4 blocks. Lucy Lymen led the team in digs with 11. Hailey Jones was the team leader in assists with 12.
This week, Snowflake will play at Blue Ridge on Tuesday, then travel to Winslow on Thursday. Friday and Saturday, they will host multiple teams in the “Be Like Nat” volleyball invitational. Their first four scheduled matches on Friday are: Chinle, St. Johns, Youngker, and Pima. Saturday’s schedule will depend on Friday’s results.
Next week, the Lobos will host Page on Tuesday and welcome Show Low on Thursday.
