Talaina Fisher
Kah-Wai Lin
This month, the Holbrook Depot Art Series will feature two local photographers and a Petrified Forest artist in residence, each bringing a unique perspective to photographic fine art.
Talaina Fisher lives in Joseph City and recently returned from Chicago, where she studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is a professional photographic illustrator, with her work featured in arts journals including Beautiful Bizarre and Australia’s Hoit Magazine, as well as on a billboard along Interstate 40 east of Holbrook. She is also preparing for exhibitions in Georgia and Washington.
Fisher stated that through her photographs she strives to depict what can be felt, but not explained, to create a connection with someone through the collective consciousness that is buried under layers and layers of mundane living.
Ron Hildreth lives in Pinetop and is a retired instructor of photography, creating the first photographic curriculum to be used at Peoria Unified School District. He has also served as a speaker and judge for the Photographic Society Of America, and has written for Shutterbug magazine on the benefits of digital photography.
Hildreth calls his works “Photographic Re-Creations,” and describes his images taken from nature as photographic impressionism.
Kah-Wai Lin is this month’s featured artist as part of the Petrified Forest National Park Artist in Residence Program. He is originally from Malaysia, but makes his home in New Jersey. He specializes in fine art landscape, travel and architectural photography. Lin’s images and articles have appeared in numerous publications and exhibitions, and he has received more than 40 international distinction or honor titles conferred by photographic societies around the world, and 100-plus awards at national and international photographic contests and exhibitions, including many gold medals and best of show.
He began working with photography at the age of 15 and now operates Kah-Wai Lin Photography LLC, which specializes in photography education, exhibition and magazine publishing. He is the editor-in-chief of Lightscape Vision Magazine and is the chairman of Metropolitan Chapter, chairman of Tops Committee and Star Ratings director of the Nature Division at the Photographic Society of America. He is also the USA representative to the Global Photographic Union.
Lin has always been in love with nature, and stated that he wanted to capture the beauty of nature in ways that preserve the spirit arising from the scene. “Since I moved to the USA, I have been fascinated by the unique American landscapes that have now become my main source of inspiration,” he noted.
The exhibition will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday. The depot is located on the corner of Navajo Blvd. and Bucket of Blood Street.
