The Wildcats put together a nice season this year, going 6-3 through the regular season before falling to Mogollon in Friday night’s regular-season finale. Joseph City put together a strong season this year, marking their first winning campaign since 2022.
The seventh-ranked Wildcats fell to fifth-ranked Mogollon, losing 42-28. With the final score only being a two-score difference, the Cats head into the 1A state playoffs with a little momentum.
As the seventh seed, they will host 10th-seeded Salome this Friday night. The two teams met in week three, when the Wildcats prevailed 48-12 in Salome. With this game being in Joseph City, fans can expect the Cats to cruise into the second round, where they will face a much more formidable foe in second-seed Hayden.
Salome enters Friday’s game with a 5-4 record and is in the midst of a four-game winning streak, scoring 66 points in each of its last two victories.
Joseph City, barring a letdown, should advance to face second-seeded and unbeaten Hayden, which received a first-round bye.
