“A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition.”
–Anonymous
We all experience our share of problems throughout life. Sometimes there are solutions to our problems, and sometimes there are not. Some problems we just have to learn to live with. Some people find this much more difficult than others. It all has to do with attitude. Some people carry their sunny dispositions like umbrellas that just seem to deflect so many of the problems that would overwhelm others.
We all need to accept the reality that we will always have problems as well as blessings. If we expect to have problems, we are not as devastated when they come as are those people who think they should be immune from troubles. Some of us are capable of focusing on the big picture, and some of us are not. If we can objectively view both what is right in our lives and what is wrong, most of us will find that there is a lot more right than there is wrong. It’s a lot like looking at the assets and liabilities of a business. All businesses have liabilities, but that is not so much of a problem if the assets exceed the liabilities by enough to provide a healthy net worth.
Some people are chronic complainers. No matter how well things are going, they always find something to complain about. Others rarely complain, no matter how many problems they have. When we complain about our problems, it has a negative effect both on us and on those around us, and it usually does no good at all. We can do a favor to ourselves and those around us by focusing our attention and energy on trying to solve those problems that are solvable, and learning to accept those things that cannot be changed.
Rain is just as necessary to our natural environment as sunshine. Places that have only sunshine are desolate deserts. Likewise, some rain must fall into all our lives, and we must learn to expect it and to accept it. We get such an exhilarating feeling when the sun comes out after a heavy rainstorm. If it were not for occasional rains and cloudy days, we would not know just how wonderful sunshine is. By the same token, if our lives were all sunshine with no rain, we would just take our many blessings for granted, and most of us would enjoy life less than we do when we experience a little rain and a few cloudy days now and then.
Think about it.
