I was pleasantly surprised to see in your Oct. 14 edition that sheriff’s deputies had arrested or cited and released nine drivers for criminal speed on Highway 260 on Sunday, Sept. 27. (A criminal speed charge kicks in when you are driving 85 miles per hour or more.) That highway links Heber and Show Low and has been the scene of many horrific crashes.

I commend Sheriff David Clouse for conducting this detail and encourage him to continue with more. I hope the Department of Public Safety will join in this effort and that focus will also fall on Highway 377 from Heber to Holbrook. It, too, has been the scene of many deadly collisions and they are becoming increasingly common.

Thank you, sheriff, for your focus on a dangerous road. Please expand and continue your efforts.
