With fall in the air comes the reminder that we will be getting some pretty cold days in the not-too-distant future. While it may be just another chore for us to get wood for the fireplace or shop for winter gear, for others in our communities the ability to meet those needs is completely out of reach. In our pages this week is notice from the Navajo County Family Advocacy Center that they are hosting a winter clothing drive, and I’m sure they could use your help. The Bread of Life Mission will also be hosting plenty of guests this season and would likely be in need of cold weather clothing too and I’m sure a helping hand to serve Thanksgiving dinner. There’s Alice’s Place, Naomi House, Catholic Charities, Shepherd’s Kitchen and I’m sure many more organizations that wouldn’t mind some additional support either through donations of money, items or service.

I also want to encourage families to get their kids out to serve. Nothing gives us a better perspective on our own lives than understanding the needs of others. Having been the recipient of services when it was needed and being provided the opportunity to return service later in life has given me the invaluable gift of reflection when I think I’m having a rough time. Thanks to those experiences, I can genuinely say I’m incredibly fortunate. I think you will come to that realization for yourself.
