“It’s ongoing,” said Taylor Mayor Fay Hatch of the talks regarding the fire/ambulance intergovernmental agreement between Taylor and Snowflake as he gave an update to the town council last week. “Some of the agreements we discussed need to be written up before it can be brought to the council for a vote.”

Town Manager Gus Lundberg explained that the committee met in December to discuss details of the proposed draft agreement. “We’re working through to eventually come up with a combined fire and ambulance department between Taylor and Snowflake,” he said.

Lundberg noted that the day to day operations for fire/ambulance would fall under the Town of Taylor, as the police department falls under the Town of Snowflake, but both town managers will have decision making authority in regards to the bigger picture, such as disciplinary issues. There would be an oversight committee comprised of the mayors and town managers of the towns, and the agreement will be similar to the police services agreement.

Mayor Hatch reported that Snowflake officials agreed to every one of the items that the Taylor council would like to see as part of the agreement.

“Snowflake would like to see this happen by next fiscal year,” said the mayor, which Lundberg noted would be July 1.

“It’s moving forward. We just wanted to let you know things are happening in that direction,” said Mayor Hatch.

Councilman David Smith asked if there were plans to have an open public meeting on the proposed agreement.

Lundberg said he thought they should have the agreement ready for review by the council before any public meetings are held.

Council members noted that it should be a joint meeting with the Snowflake council.
