Joseph City enters fall sports this year with a football rebuild and a volleyball program looking to return to the 1A state tournament. The football team plays in the 1A North region where they went 2-3 last year and 2-5 overall. This year, a new head coach, Martin Roes, takes over a once proud program, which hopes to return to their winning ways. Last year’s only wins came over Mayer and Fredonia. This season begins on Friday when they travel to Salome to face a Frogs team they haven’t played in three years.
The Lady Wildcat volleyball team is under the direction of Coach Charlsye Miller. They compete in the 1A Central region where they went 7-3 last year. They finished 9-8 overall. The team will host five schools including Page, Holbrook, Winslow, Northland Prep and Mogollon in a six-team scrimmage on Friday afternoon, which begins at 1 p.m. They open the season at the Payson Tournament on Aug 30 and 31, where they are slated to face Gilbert Christian, Northland Prep, Arizona Lutheran and Tonopah Valley. Joseph City will open the regular season at home on Aug. 28, when they host Kingman Academy.
