The Wildcats football team was hoping to go 2-0 on the season, but they were also hoping to face Valley Lutheran on Friday night in Joseph City. The Flames bailed out on the game late in the week, leaving Joseph City scrambling for a game.
They found an opponent, Mohave Accelerated, but had to travel over four hours to face the Patriots. Mohave Accelerated could end up being a good barometer for the Wildcats later in the season since they defeated Mogollon 44-40 in week one.
The 1A West region opponent put up the points, but so did the Wildcats, who combined for 104 total points. Unfortunately, 62 of those points belonged to the Guardians, leaving the Wildcats with a loss despite a night with 42 points on the board.
This week, the Wildcats, now 1-1, will travel to face Salome on Friday night. The Frogs are also 1-1 on the season with a 50-0 win over Fort Thomas in week one, followed by a 42-6 loss to Hayden last week.
The Wildcats lost this matchup 46-6 last year and will be looking to get even with the Frogs, albeit on the road this season.
