The Wildcats welcomed in the defending 1A state champions for a Thursday evening football game and Hayden proved worthy of their title, handing Joseph City a 59-6 setback. The Wildcats came into the game with some injuries which didn’t help matters, especially on the offensive side of the ball, but the Lobos defense was just too strong for them to overcome.
Joseph City’s only touchdown came when Jaimen Tsosie caught the touchdown pass as part of his 100 all-purpose yards. Joseph City went through several different quarterbacks on the night. Sophomore Tytan Penrod and freshman Kase Fish led the way. However, once Fish had to leave the game with an injury, Joseph City struggled to overcome that adversity.
Defensively Marquell Fredericks, Dylan Salazar and JD Miller all led the team in tackles. “We’re seeing big improvements from our younger guys each week as they start to grasp the concepts and get comfortable playing varsity-level football,” said Head Coach Martin Roes. “You can see the boys are starting to buy into the system most obviously on special teams.”
Joseph City now 1-3, will look to turn things around on Friday this week when they travel to El Capitan. The Eagles handed the Wildcats a 58-6 loss last year, so this game will be a tough battle for Joseph City.
