The Snowflake and Taylor fire departments were busy over the weekend.

The Snowflake Fire Department was called to a fire near Freeman Hollow on Friday, May 6.

The property owner had hired some men to clean up the area. A burn permit had been issued, but it was not called in and the fire jumped the containment set up by the workers.

Snowflake Public Works employees brought out a blade to build a fire line, which helped contain the fire that burned 33 acres. The Taylor Fire Department also responded.

Two homes were on standby for evacuation, but the fire was contained before it was necessary to evacuate them.

The Snowflake and Taylor fire departments also responded to a fire near Concho that burned 100 acres, and on Monday they still had a water tender from each department at the Whiteriver fire. Snowflake Fire Chief Pat Hancock said that at this time they do not have the manpower to send more engines.
