Wanda Lydolph Wanda Marie Vickers Lydolph, 90, passed away in Snowflake on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014. In honor of her wishes, no services will be held.

She was born March 16, 1924, in Bonaparte, Iowa, to William Vickers and Marjorie Pfiefer Vickers.

Wanda married the love of her life, Cecil Lydolph, on May 17, 1941. They celebrated 73 years of marriage this year.

They moved with their 4 children from Bonaparte to Snowflake in 1962 when the paper mill opened, then back to Bonaparte briefly from 1976 to 1979, when they came back to Taylor and have lived since then.

Wanda lived through the Depression years and could cook a gourmet meal out of anything. She was an excellent cook, and enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing. She bowled, wrote poetry and loved to play word games. She loved music of all kind with the exception of modern country. She never missed a grandchild’s ballgame or activity if she could get there. Wanda was one of the most intelligent people you would ever meet. She had a great personality and a good sense of humor. She loved her animals, especially her dogs, cats and chickens. Wanda loved her children, and her grandchildren could do no wrong in her eyes.

Not only was she a homemaker, but she also held many jobs. She served in the Signal Corps during World War II, where she decoded messages for the Secret Services in Arlington, Va., at the Pentagon. She also worked at the Talheimers Department Store in Richmond, Va., Shaffer Pen in Fort Madison, Iowa, and Fairfield Glove Factory in Bonaparte.

Survivors include her husband of 73 years, Cecil Lydolph; three sons, Chris Lydolph of Texas, Murrie (Janet) Lydolph of Mississippi and Jeff Lydolph of Mississippi; a daughter, Sarita (Lynn) Hatch of Taylor; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; a brother, William (Betty) Vickers of Bonaparte; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, George Lydolph; and her daughter-in-law, Trenna Lydolph.

In lieu of flowers, Wanda would love donations to be made to Pet Allies or a similar organization.

Silver Creek Mortuary of Taylor was in charge of the arrangements.
