The Taylor Town Council voted last week to increase the revenues in the Taylor-Snowflake Fire/EMS budget from $550,000 to $650,000.
The ambulance service had its busiest May ever with 100 calls for just an ambulance.
As a result, Town Manager Gus Lundberg asked the council to consider a request for a Fire/EMS budget transfer.
“I wanted to be very conservative with the revenues,” said Lundberg, explaining that he did not want to have to ask the Town of Snowflake for more money, but with the many calls for service received, there is a surplus of $100,000 that has been collected.
Lundberg had budgeted $550,000 for Fire/EMS, and asked that the council allow the $100,000 surplus to be transferred to the ambulance budget.
“This is an expenditure limitation situation,” said Lundberg, noting that expenditure limitation, or Home Rule, will be on the town’s August ballot.
Lundberg explained that because the citizens previously approved the expenditure limitation, the town has the flexibility to take $100,000 from the contingency fund and put it into the budget. If it were not for approval by citizens, they would not be able to include that revenue in the current budget.
