Have you ever wanted to participate in a triathlon, but didn’t want to start with an Ironman? You are in luck! The Snowflake Pool Committee, with the backing of the Parks and Recreation Department, and the towns of Snowflake and Taylor, is sponsoring a shorter distance triathlon, and there is still plenty of time to train for it. The Sweet Tri Triathlon will take place during the Taylor Sweet Corn Festival on Labor Day weekend, Saturday, Sept. 3. It will feature a 525-yard swim, a 13.1-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run. These distances can challenge seasoned athletes to improve their personal records, but are within range for those who want to take on a triathlon for the first time. The Pool Committee is fortunate to have Jeremy Neff and Drew Griffin as members. Both are experienced triathletes, and have offered their talents to head up the organization of the Sweet Tri. It promises to be a wonderful event for local swimmers, bikers and runners, and it will also bring athletes from around the state to visit the community during the Sweet Corn Festival. The event is expected to raise $5,000 or more for the Pool Committee’s maintenance and repair fund, with the group’s main goal being to accumulate funds to repair the roof of the pool building. For details about the Sweet Tri, go online to White Mountain Endurance Sports at www.wmendurance.com. There you will find training program suggestions, as well as complete information about the Sweet Tri. Train with a friend or family member. You will benefit by shaping up while time helping our community pool. Twenty to 30 volunteers are needed to help with water stations, to give directions, and to offer snacks and drinks at the finish line on the day of the race. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact Drew or Jeremy at the website noted above, or contact Marie Caldwell, chair of the Pool Committee.
