Snowflake Welcome Sign

The Snowflake-Taylor Chamber of Commerce is hosting their first Ugly Sweater Contest at the 2018 Tree Lighting Ceremony this Friday, Nov. 30. Adding even more fun to a long list of exciting events beginning this week.

The festivities will begin at 6 p.m. with Snowflake Mayor Lynn Johnson doing a countdown and flipping the switch to light the tree.

Shortly after the tree is lit, Santa will arrive on a fire truck and set up with Mrs. Claus on the porch of the historic Freeman House to hear all the wishes of the boys and girls. Bags of candy, toys and goodies will be available for all the kids who come until they run out of candy.

The block of West First Street North next to the Freeman home will be filled with booths manned by the businesses providing free hot cocoa and cookies while entertainers sing, dance and twirl ropes from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The list of entertainers includes Dance Amour, Canyon Creek Performing Arts, Snowflake High School Madrigals, Britton Shirley with his trick ropes, Calvary Chapel, Our Lady of the Snow (OLS), Delight Skinner and High Country Barbershop Chorus.

The Nativity displays will also be available for viewing at the Snowflake Social Hall from 6 to 8 p.m.

At 7 p.m. judging for the Ugly Sweater Contest will begin at the pavilion by the Snowflake Social Hall. There is no cost to enter and prizes will be given for the ugliest sweaters. So grab that ugly sweater and head to Snowflake for a night of family fun to kick off the holidays.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Charlotte Hatch also wants to invite everyone to the annual Christmas Market from 12 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, at OLS Community Center, located at 1655 S. Main.

“Come on out and find the perfect handmade or homemade Christmas gift for your family and friends,” said Hatch. The event is free to the public.
