“We were anticipating that we would bring a proposed IGA (intergovernmental agreement) for fire to this meeting,” Snowflake Town Manager Paul Watson told the town council last week.
He explained that the Snowflake and Taylor committee had an agreement for fire and ambulance services to take before both town councils, but Watson sent it to the insurance pool, the insurance provider for both towns, which suggested changes, though nothing substantial.
Watson reviewed the proposed changes with Town Attorney Robert Hall, and will send them to Taylor for review by its attorney.
In other business Feb. 10, Snowflake Fire Chief Pat Hancock presented an Arizona Mutual Aid Compact to the council for approval, noting that it is similar to the existing agreement. He had provided substantive changes to council members for their review prior to the meeting.
Mayor Tom Poscharsky asked if Hall had reviewed the document.
The attorney replied that he had.
Councilman Terril Kay asked Hancock how he felt about the compact.
“I think it’s good,” said Chief Hancock. “It’s good to be on the same page throughout the state.”
“Mutual aid is a huge part of what we do,” the chief continued, noting that the revised compact cleans up a lot of language.
Hancock explained that the Snowflake and Taylor fire departments have a mutual aid agreement under which both departments automatically respond to any structure fire in the towns.
The council approved the updated mutual aid compact.
