“From what I gather, it’s one of the things we do in this town that people really appreciate,” said Snowflake Mayor Kelly Willis speaking regarding the flowerpots on Main Street.
The cost of purchasing flowers is $6,848.13 and to water and maintain the flowers over the season totals approximately $3,500.
Last year the town held a donation drive asking townspeople to purchase a flowerpot, and raised $6,865.
“We have the money now to do the program this year,” said Town Manager Paul Watson at the Feb. 28 town council meeting. “We have to purchase the flowers now.”
Watson advised the council that they will run a campaign again this summer to raise money for the flowerpots.
“It gives people a sense of ownership of Main Street,” said Mayor Willis. He then moved to approve the expenditure of $6,848.13 to J and K Nursery for the planting and growing of 180 14”-flowerpots that will be made up of geraniums and petunias for the 2012 season, and that the town again hold a campaign to raise money for next year’s flowerpots. The motion passed unanimously.
