Snowflake High School Advanced Biology students, including (left to right) Ty Craun and Caitlin Despain, toured the Snowflake Biomass Plant Feb. 9 as part of Arizona Green Week 2011. The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) scheduled activities throughout the state to encourage students to become environmental stewards. Byron James, community liaison for the Northern Regional Office, represented ADEQ. Ed Ulrich, fuel quality control manager of the biomass plant, gave students the tour, explaining how they make electricity from wood chips and sludge, which is the waste from the Catalyst Paper Mill.
