Cindy Peterson of the Snowflake Unified School District’s Special Services Department reported on the Medicaid School Based Claiming Program audit at the Nov. 13 governing board meeting.

She explained that Medicaid can be billed for physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy provided to students who have special needs and require these services. The district can also bill for aides for students who require them.

Peterson noted that they took 36 files and reviewed more than 500 documents. In order to be compliant, districts must score 90 to 100 percent. The Snowflake district scored 98.59 percent. That included one finding that was billed incorrectly for speech therapy for which the district had to make reimbursement in the amount of $120.

After the transportation audit of more than 1,000 pages of bus loggings, the district received a reimbursement, said Peterson.

“We have done well on all our audits,” said Superintendent Hollis Merrell.

In other business, the board approved moving the 2015-16 spring break back one week to match Northland Pioneer College’s calendar. NPC recently approved the change.

The next board meeting will be held on Thursday, Dec. 4, due to a conflict with the Arizona School Boards Association Conference.
