“A very key component to this project is the funding that we are able to acquire with the participation from a lot of folks, but probably none greater than Brian Richards as finance director, and what he did to participate with the state in the funding,” said Snowflake Town Manager Paul Watson referring to the Southern Solution at the April 12 council meeting.
Richards then was asked to present a symbolic check to the council after giving an update on the funding process.
“We’ve been working on this money since 2005,” said Richards. “This is our third project.”
The town received $110,000 for the Jake Flake Crossing and $100,000 for the water crossing.
“We had one fellow from Arizona Department of Emergency Management, Mr. Trammell, who said he would use Snowflake as an example because we were so tenacious until we got this done,” said Mayor Kelly Willis. “He couldn’t believe we pushed and pushed until we got this done…A lot of credit goes to Brian.”
The town was presented a symbolic check in the amount of $985,178 by the Federal Emergency Management Association and the Arizona Department of Emergency management for a hazard mitigation grant for the Southern Solution.
In other business, the mayor and council proclaimed April as Fair Housing Month and unanimously approved Resolution No. 11-554, Fair Housing Policy.
