Newly retired Snowflake-Taylor Police Chief Jerry VanWinkle has done his job with essentially two bosses and had the burden of representing the two towns, said Taylor Town Manager Gus Lundberg last week, noting, “He has done well.”
VanWinkle asked to address the council members one more time to thank them for the service they do and for “making my job, while I was here, for the most part, pleasant,” noting there were some challenges.
“I did enjoy serving the Town of Taylor; it is a great, great community,” said VanWinkle. He said he is very proud he was able to serve, getting to know the ins and outs of the two towns and councils for the communities.
“The department is in good hands. People there are good, solid folks, and will continue to serve,” said VanWinkle.
Councilor Dave Smith noted that he grew up with VanWinkle, who was “always one of us. One thing I’ve always appreciated is having a police chief in our community who was one of us,” said Smith, “Hopefully we did the same for you.”
