There are few things in Snowflake that Elwood “Woody” and Beth Peterson haven’t been active in over the years. That is exactly why they were chosen by the Snowflake Pioneer Days Committee to be this year’s parade marshals. “This is such an honor,” said Beth.
Woody was born in Snowflake and left to attend Brigham Young University in Utah where he obtained a degree in construction management. That is where he met Beth, his wife of 58 years. After marrying, they returned to Snowflake. They raised nine children in Snowflake and now have 55 grandchildren. “Snowflake is a great place to raise a family,” said Beth.
Woody served a deputy sheriff for 10 years when the Snowflake High School wood shop teacher retired and the school district approached Woody to teach wood shop. He accepted that offer and taught area kids the art of woodworking for 21 years. Beth kept more than busy as a devoted mother to their nine children.
Woody also served on the Snowflake Town Council for 18 years and has been a board member and president of the Silver Creek Preforming Arts. They have both been very active in the LDS Church and over the years all the school activities that having nine children requires. “We love Snowflake. Happiness is Snowflake,” said Beth.
The Petersons will be honored at the Pioneer Program immediately following the parade at 10:30 a.m. this Saturday, July 21, at the Main Street LDS Chapel. The Petersons will also have an opportunity to speak at the program. They plan on speaking about happiness and Beth will be sharing a story of her pioneer ancestors.
