He devoted his entire life to serving his family, church and community. He loved serving in the Boy Scouts of America for over 60 years and hundreds of young men received their Eagle Scout awards as a result of his love and concern for them. Clyde received the highest award in scouting for his service–the Silver Beaver Award. He is a decorated veteran and served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War from 1951-52. He and his wife, McCray, served as full-time missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2005. Clyde and McCray were inducted into the Town of Taylor Hall of Fame for their service and generosity to the community. The Town of Taylor named the grandstands at the Taylor Arena “Clyde Sherman Grandstands” in his honor. Clyde attended the University of Arizona and worked in the mining and forest industries. One of his career accomplishments was working as a chemist in research and development where he developed and obtained several patents used in the mining industry for the extraction of metals. He was also a gardener extraordinaire, fabulous cook, horseman, ranch hand, farmer and welder. He is the great-grandson of many early Arizona Mormon pioneers who settled in Arizona when it was a U.S. territory. He was very proud of his heritage and the many sacrifices and contributions these pioneers made to build wonderful places to live in Arizona. His greatest joys in life were his lovely wife, McCray and their 63 years of marriage; and their children, Karen (Doug) Steinhour, Renee (Chuck) Peters, Beverly (Dan) Adcox, Darrell (Jane) Sherman and Charlene (Marc) Ferrin. He especially loved spending time with his 19 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. Clyde’s lifelong service to others is a remarkable example of his love for the savior Jesus Christ, his family and his fellowman. He was a true and genuine friend to all who knew him. Owens Livingston Mortuary of Snowflake handled the arrangements.
