A Snowflake children’s book author has a new book coming out that is not only fun for kids to read, it helps build confidence in decision making. Teydon Rae’s new book “Kami Koala Makes a Decision” is inspired by her own experiences in raising her six children. Rae, who is also a wife and business owner, says this book has been a long time coming. “The story is about a young koala girl who makes decisions using a rhyme. It started as a story that I wrote in fourth grade, then picked back up a few years ago when my daughter was going through a hard time making decisions.”
Rae explained that her daughter would get so frustrated when simple choices were so overwhelming. “She would be frustrated that she didn’t know if she made the right choice. As a parent it was hard for me to watch her struggle. We spent time talking about techniques and tools that she could use to overcome her frustration. This story was a big part of her personal growth as she was able to relate with the main character.”
In preparing for the book, Rae says she researched psychology journals on how to help children develop leadership skills and self-confidence. In her research she learned that allowing children to make decisions at a young age can help prevent breakdowns, anxiety and teach kids to think ahead about consequences. She also learned that children who developed decision making skills have been known to have additional character traits such as self-confidence, trust in themselves, empathy, decisiveness and thoughtfulness.
“I want to have this book available to help build up children everywhere, like it helped my own child. I want to inspire others to unlock the magic within themselves and shoot for those childhood dreams that bring joy, confidence, leadership and make the world a better place.”
The 32-page book is written for ages 4 to 8 and includes beautiful illustrations by Cennet Kapkac. “Kami Koala Makes a Decision” is being pre-sold for $17.95 as Kickstarter campaign that begins this week. Those participating will not be charged if the goal is not met.
