It took three weeks, but the Lobos got into the win column against an old 3A rival when they took care of visiting Show Low, 55-17 on Friday night.
Snowflake’s opening possession resulted in a one-yard plunge by AAden Coor just two minutes into the game. Sam Brown made good on the PAT and the Lobos were quickly on to 7-0.
Late in the first quarter, the Cougars scored on a 30-yard connection from Nash Brewer to Jade Dekker. Brewer completed the conversion pass to Edwin Morena and Show Low moved on top 8-7.
Snowflake tacked on another touchdown midway through the second period when Brennen Bryant found Payton Papa, retaking the lead 13-8. Snowflake’s defense forced a Cougar fumble when their offense quickly turned into points when Kanton Turley rumbled in from 21 yards out. Brown’s PAT pushed the lead to 19-8. The Lobo defense then intercepted Show Low on the Cougar’s next possession, setting up a one-yard scoring run by Coor, extending the lead to 27-8. Following a second interception in the period, the Lobos positioned themselves for a field goal, but it was unsuccessful, sending the teams to the halftime break.
Snowflake’s first second-half possession resulted in points when Karter Raban scored from 18 yards out. Brown’s PAT made the score 34-8. Yet another Cougar turnover led to a 25-yard scoring toss from Bryant to Merrick Ulberg, making the score 41-8.
Show Low found the endzone on a 62-yard pass from Brewer to Dane Roosma, making it 41-14.
The Lobos added two more scores in the contest making the final score 55-17.
