Snowflake passed their first big test of the season on Friday night with a hard-fought 17-10 home-field win over Bradshaw Mountain in a battle of unbeaten teams.

Last year’s game was a three-point Lobo win, so this game was expected to be close, which it was.

Snowflake scored first when Maverick Greer found Colter Willis for a 45-yard connection in the opening quarter, taking a 7-0 lead with McCoy Norton’s point-after.

The Bears got on the board late in the first half with a 37-yard field goal, making it 7-3, which was the halftime score.

Snowflake’s defense was up to the task most of the night, and an interception on Bradshaw’s opening possession of the second half set up a short field for the Lobos.

Brenner Green took advantage, scoring from 14 yards out, extending the lead to 14-3 with Norton’s kick.

With both defenses forcing several punts both ways, the Lobos finally got a big play when Maverick Greer found Maddox Wood for a big gain inside the Bears’ 5-yard line. That set up McCoy Norton’s 25-yard field goal for an insurance 3 points, giving the Lobos a 17-3 lead.

The Bears scored with three minutes left in the game, closing the gap to 17-10.

A Lobo fumble gave Bradshaw some late hope, but Snowflake’s defense forced a turnover on downs, securing the 17-10 win.

Maverick Greer completed 5 of 10 passes for 102 yards with one touchdown. Eli Willis had two catches for 45 yards. Colter Willis had one 45-yard catch for a score, and Brenner Green picked up 12 yards on two short passes.

On the ground, Green was a workhorse. The Senior back carried it 23 times, picking up 166 yards with one score. He was the only runner to get positive yards for the Lobos, who finished with 250 total yards of offense.

Snowflake, now 3-0, can turn their attention to this week’s game played at Catalina Foothills. The Falcons are winless on the season, having been outscored 136-50 in their first three games. Barring a huge letdown by the Lobos, they should easily move to 4-0 on Friday.
