The 3A east region title in the boys is a jumbled mess going into the final week of the regular season. Alchesay, Snowflake and Holbrook each are 5-3, Blue Ridge is one game out at 4-4. The Falcons have the first tiebreaker if all three teams win out, however, Holbrook hosts Alchesay on Tuesday night, meaning one of the top three will collect a loss and possibly drop out of the region title hunt.

Snowflake travels to Show Low on Tuesday night, who they defeated by only two points last Friday night. Their final regular season game will be at home vs Winslow who they eked out a win by just one point two weeks ago.

By the time Wednesday night is over someone will win the east region title.

Snowflake lost to Blue Ridge on Tuesday last week 43-41. The game was knotted at 10-10 after the first, then Blue Ridge built a 5-point halftime lead. That lead grew to 6 by the end of the third, Snowflake rallied late but came up 4 points short in the final moments.

Hosting Show Low on Friday night the game was back and forth. Show Low led by 2 after the first but trailed by 1 at the half. Snowflake extended that lead to 7 going into the fourth, then held off the Cougars down the stretch for the slim 52-50 win.

With teams jockeying for the region crown they are all in the good standing as far as the postseason is concerned. Heading into Friday’s game last week Holbrook was ranked 11th, Snowflake, 14th; Winslow 15th; and Alchesay, 18th.

None of the east region teams will be ranked high enough to qualify for the Copper Tournament, although Holbrook could possibly sneak into the 16th position with two wins this week accompanied by some losses to the three teams ranked above them.
