The Lobo boys’ soccer team had a successful week of action, with two wins and a tie in three matches played on three consecutive days, with all three matches on the road.
Snowflake started the week at Blue Ridge where they outlasted the Yellowjackets, 2-0. Playing in St. Michael the following day they shut out the Cardinals, 9-0. Three games in three days may have caught up to them on Thursday when they battled Show Low to a 1-1 tie.
Snowflake’s successful week left them ranked second in the 2A power points with four regular season matches left. After hosting Payson on Monday this week, they will travel to Round Valley to face the Elks on Wednesday. Next week they close out the regular season with a trip to St. Johns on Tuesday, followed by a home match with Round Valley on Wednesday.
The Lobos should advance to the postseason, which will begin with quarterfinal action on Oct. 24. The first two rounds are at sites of the higher-seeded teams, leaving Snowflake sitting in a good position with four matches left. Snowflake enters this week with a 6-1-1 regular season record.
The Lady Lobos played just once last week, picking up an 8-0 shut out win over visiting Round Valley on Tuesday evening. That win moved their regular season record to 6-3-1. They are currently ranked fourth in the power rankings, with two matches left on their schedule. This Tuesday they play at Blue Ridge. Next Tuesday they will host St. Johns. If they can finish inside the top six in the final rankings, they will also qualify for postseason play with at least a play-in game. That play-in game would be held on Tuesday the 24th at the high seed.
