Holbrook’s softball team had a solid week, winning one regular season game, then taking the championship of the Gold Bracket at the Epic Tournament hosted by Chandler Prep on Thursday and Friday.

Wednesday, the Roadrunners hosted Chinle in a game that was postponed from Tuesday to avoid bad weather. Playing under much nicer conditions on Wednesday, Holbrook started quickly with 5 first inning runs. They added 2 more in the second and scored 3 in each of the third and fourth frames. Chinle got their only run of the game with a solo home run in the top of the fifth, leaving Holbrook with a 13-1 win.

Cayla Monroe led at the plate going 2 for 3, with a double. Amber Begay was 1 for 2, with a triple. Jaycee Greer went 1 for 3. Tamryn Baldonado was 1 for 4. Leah Gashweseoma went 1 for 2. Alexis Young was 1 for 4, and Angelica Uranga Williams was 1 for 3.

Baldonado pitched four innings allowing just 1 hit with 9 strikeouts. Elena Philpott pitched one inning giving up 1 run on 1 hit.

Holbrook went 4-0 at Epic Tourney in Chandler. They started with a win over Fort Thomas on Thursday afternoon. Thursday evening, they defeated Tempe 12-9 in their closest game of the tourney. Friday afternoon they faced Parker in the semifinal round and won 13-4. That put the Lady Birds into the championship game where they bested Window Rock 12-8 behind 3 home runs from Baldonado.

This week Holbrook will host Snowflake on Tuesday, then travel to Winslow on Friday. Saturday at noon they will host Monument Valley. Next Monday they play at Mogollon.
