The Lady Roadrunners had their season come to a close in Tuba City on Thursday night. Facing the 13th-seeded Warriors, Holbrook started slowly and never recovered in what resulted in a 58-40 Tuba City win. Holbrook netted eight points in the first but gave up 18 in the first eight minutes. In the second, the Roadrunners added nine to their total but defensively they struggled to keep Tuba City off the boards, allowing the Warriors to build a 34-17 halftime advantage. Tuba City extended their lead in the third and eventually won the game by 18 bringing an end to Holbrook’s season. Noheah Aberle led Holbrook with 11 points. Raelle Yazzie added 9; Alayna Yazzie, 6; Lei Smith, 3; Deya Guerrero, 3; Nikol Gombos, 3; Sara Billy, 2; and Lynea Smith added 1. “Clearly, this wasn’t the outcome we had hoped for. However, after struggling as we did through much of our season it is a compliment to these girls’ effort that we were able to earn another trip to the state tournament. We had a couple of big wins down the stretch which made that possible. We will certainly miss our seniors, but the majority of our team should be returning next year. As long as they put in the time it takes to improve, we should be more competitive next season,” stated Coach Greg Perkins. Holbrook ended their season with an overall record of 11-17.
