Holbrook played twice last week against two of the top four ranked 3A teams. Monday, they hosted fourth-ranked Snowflake and were blanked 8-0 by the Lady Lobos. Wednesday, they traveled to face third-seeded Show Low on a windy afternoon. Show Low prevailed 8-1, leaving Holbrook looking up at possibly hosting a 3A play-in game.

Holbrook had one final game left which was at Alchesay on Monday. Regardless of the outcome of that game Holbrook will be in the 3A play-in scenario. They were ranked 17th going into the contest, however, Tonopah Valley (16th), and Winslow (15th) both won on Friday of last week, making it hard for Holbrook to jump into the 16th position.

Holbrook was held to just 2 hits in their loss to Snowflake. The Lobos scored 3 runs in the fourth and sixth frames and added 1 each in the fifth and seventh. The game was scoreless through the first three innings.

Micah Winn and Angelica Uranga were the only two to get a hit for the Roadrunners.

Freshman London Gardner pitched well in the circle for Holbrook. She worked all seven innings allowing the 8 runs on only 7 hits with 1 strikeout and 2 walks.

After scoring in the top of the first at Show Low on Wednesday the Roadrunner bats went silent. Show Low matched that first inning run, then slowly extended their lead eventually winning the game 8-1.

Holbrook had just 4 hits in the loss. Alexis Young went 1 for 3 with a double. Jaycee Greer was 1 for 3, Elena Philpott 1 for 3 and Willow Guttery 1 for 2.

Gardner pitched six innings allowing 8 runs on 8 hits with 3 strikeouts and two walks.

Holbrook will more than likely have to travel on Wednesday to either Tonopah Valley, Winslow, or possibly Thatcher depending on the final 3A rankings which should be released Tuesday. There is still a slight chance they could host that game but not likely.

If they can win the play-in game they would be reseeded into the final sixteen team state tournament bracket. That first round is scheduled to be played on Saturday at high seed sites. The second round will be next Wednesday again at higher seeded locations.

Holbrook was 11-12 overall going into Monday’s game at Alchesay. They were 7-10 in regular season games.
