The Lady Lobos earned a first-round bye in the 3A Softball state playoffs. They finished seventh in the final rankings, meaning they didn’t have to compete in the play-in game. Winslow did have to play in that early-round game. As the 10th-seed, they hosted No. 23 Globe and cruised past the Tigers 16-1, setting up their meeting with the Lobos on Saturday morning in Snowflake.
The Bulldogs were able to carry over the momentum from that win to upset Snowflake 15-7, bringing Snowflake’s season to a close.
The east region foes matched each other with 2 first inning runs. After a scoreless second, Winslow went in front with 3 runs in the third. They added 4 more in the fourth, as did Snowflake.
Those fourth inning runs by the Lobos would be their final runs of the season as Winslow blanked them in the final three innings to win the game 15-7 and advance to the quarterfinals of the state playoffs.
Snowflake ends their season with a regular season mark of 19-7. They finished as the east region runner-up, just one game behind Show Low.
