The Lady Lobos had their season come to a close on Wednesday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the 3A state softball tournament. Snowflake had advanced to that round with a 10-5 first round win over Winslow.
The fourth seeded Lobos hosted fifth seeded Yuma Catholic and the two close seeds played that way through the first four innings. Yuma had scored the game’s only run to that point in the third frame and led 1-0 going into the fifth.
In the top of the fifth, the Shamrocks took advantage and hit the ball well enough to push 7 runs across the plate taking an 8-0 lead.
Snowflake countered with 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth but still trailed by 5. Both teams scored twice in the sixth, then Yuma tacked on 2 insurance runs in the top of the seventh. They held Snowflake without a run in the seventh and won the game 12-5.
Snowflake had just 8 hits in the loss and committed only 2 errors. Kloe Burden had 3 of those, going 3 for 4 with a double. Brittyn Butler went 2 for 3; Kashlynn Cantrell, 1 for 4; Addie Coor, 1 for 4; and Riley Perkins, 1 for 4.
Cantrell pitched all seven innings allowing 12 runs on 16 hits with 4 strikeouts and walked just 1 Shamrock batter.
Snowflake finishes the season with an overall record of 19-10. They were 13-3 in regular season games and won the east region title.
