The Lady Lobos have dropped three consecutive games after climbing as high as No. 3 in the 3A power rankings. However, each of those three losses came against teams ranked very high. Following their Jan. 12 loss to Payson, they fell to the top two teams in the rankings this past week. Playing at No. 2 Window Rock on Wednesday night, the Lobos struggled to find the mark in a low-scoring first half which saw the Scouts leading 19-9 at the break. In the third, their deficit grew to 35-19, before both teams finally found the bucket in the final period with each netting 20 points. The result was a 55-39 Lobo loss.

Friday night, Snowflake was in Show Low where they took on the top-ranked Lady Cougars. For about 30 of the 32 minutes, the Lobos controlled this game and were poised for an upset. They led 20-10 at the half and took a decent lead into the fourth period. In the final eight minutes, Show Low’s pressure defense forced too many Lobo turnovers which the top-ranked teams capitalized on to win the game 42-17. Snowflake showed they could play with the top team. They just couldn’t quite close the deal. They should still be ranked inside the top 12 when the rankings come out on Tuesday afternoon with their 6-4 regular season record.

This week they will host Holbrook on Tuesday, then welcome in Blue Ridge on Friday. Following those two games, they will have five games left on the regular season docket before heading to the state tournament.
