Top-seeded Snowflake cruised past the first two rounds of the 3A state volleyball tournament on Saturday. Playing at Marcos de Niza High School the Lobos met up with 16th-seeded Parker. The rankings were certainly right in this match with Snowflake prevailing in three games 25-18, 25-15, and 25-18.
That win advanced them in the bracket to a 5 p.m. meeting with No. 8 seeded Gilbert Christian who had earlier defeated No. 9 Monument Valley in five games. While this match was more competitive for Snowflake, they again prevailed in three straight games 25-18, 25-22, and 25-20.
Snowflake has now advanced to the 3A state semi-final round where they will meet up with fourth-seeded Thatcher. The Eagles are the only team to have beaten the Lobos this year in regular season play having done so way back on Sept. 1 in five games. Thatcher defeated Winslow 3-1 and took care of Scottsdale Christian 3-1 to earn their spot in the semifinal round.
If the Lobos can get past the Eagles in Friday’s 5 p.m. match-up, they will face either No. 2 Valley Christian or No. 3 Northwest Christian in the championship match which will be played at Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m.
