Snowflake advanced to the volleyball 3A state semi-finals with two wins in the tournament bracket on Saturday. The fifth-seeded Lobos will take on top-ranked Valley Christian on Tuesday in the first of two semi-final matches. Northwest Christian and Seton Catholic Prep face off in the later match.

Snowflake entered the state tournament as the fifth-ranked team with a regular season record of 15-2. Overall, their season mark was 30-9 including all tournament play.

The Lobos took on the 12th-seeded Odyssey Institute at Millennium High School early Saturday afternoon. They took care of business dominating the Minotaurs in three straight games, 25-11, 25-16, and 25-19.

That win set up a quarterfinal match with 13th-seeded Ben Franklin who was fresh off an upset of the fourth-seeded team Monument Valley. Snowflake didn’t mind playing the lower seed as they won comfortably in three games, 25-19, 25-19, and 25-20.

Now the Lobos face top-ranked Valley Christian in a rematch of last year’s state title match won by Snowflake.

The Trojans were responsible for one of Snowflake’s two regular season losses on Oct. 18, winning in four games. Valley Christian, like Snowflake, cruised through their opening two rounds with easy wins over Window Rock and Parker. They are unbeaten in regular season play.

The match will be played at 5 p.m. at Mountain Pointe High School. If Snowflake can upset the number one team, they would face either Seton Catholic or Northwest Christian in the state championship match early Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Coliseum, with a 12:15 p.m. scheduled start time.
