Voting 1

This is a correction from an earlier story that was in the Sept. 7 edition of the Silver Creek Herald.

Early election returns show that the Town of Snowflake will be facing a run-off election in November to determine their next mayor. The top two vote-getters, Michael “Lynn” Johnson and Hunter Lewis will be squaring off, as Johnson garnered 408 votes and Lewis picked up 329 votes, making the percentage of individual candidate votes too low to determine an outright winner. Thomas Poscharsky, who is currently serving as mayor of Snowflake, followed with 291 votes.

The Town of Snowflake had a tight race for four council seats. Those vacancies will be filled by current vice mayor Kerry L. Ballard, who garnered 699 votes, incumbent Byron Lewis with 682, Allison Perkins, 632 and incumbent Stuart Hensley, who tallied 630 votes. Leanne Morris received 536 votes.

The three vacancies on the Taylor town council will be filled by current vice mayor Shawn Palmer, who took the lead with 437 votes, followed closely by current mayor Jon “Fay” Hatch with 426, and Kyle Peck with 378 votes. Bill Baldwin received 331 votes, Sandy Steward, 142 and Velma Perkins, 134.

In addition to the offices on the ballot, three propositions were also voted in. Residents of both Taylor and Snowflake voted to continue an alternative expenditure limitation in each of those communities, with Taylor voting 474 to 141 in favor and Snowflake voting 700 to 228 in favor. In addition, the citizens of Taylor voted 436 to 181 to support the current general plan in effect until a new general plan is approved by the council and voters.
