One fire was reported to the Holbrook Police Department during the period of Feb. 19-25, according to dispatcher reports.
At approximately 7:44 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, officers responded to a reported fire at the Sahara Inn, located at 2402 Navajo Blvd. According to the report, officers responded to the building after being told a door to one of the rooms was on fire with a subject in the room and unable to get out. When officers arrived, they discovered a mattress in the parking lot that was burning, the outside frame of the door was smoldering and a box frame in the room was smoldering. It was discovered that the person staying in the room fell asleep with a lit cigarette, starting the blaze but that the subject was not injured. There were other people staying in the building and it was noted that the hotel does not have electricity due to a previous fire and that it was condemned by the city and deemed unhabitable by the state fire marshal. The officers told those staying there that they should find somewhere else to live.
