At 6:50 p.m. on. Monday, April 13, the Holbrook Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fully engulfed fire at the Sahara Inn, located at 2402 Navajo Blvd. According to HVFD, upon arrival crews found that only a portion of the building was involved and the fire was able to be contained to that area. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
This is the third fire at the Sahara Inn. The first was in January of 2025, when the electrical box in the laundry room at the facility caught fire. It was determined that the power was to remain off at the inn until the damages could be repaired and the wiring replaced. Then just a month later a person living in one the rooms lit a mattress on fire with a cigarette after falling asleep. At the time of the second fire, it was noted that other people were living in the building without electricity despite being deemed uninhabitable by the state fire marshal.
In Arizona, if a building is condemned by the state fire marshal, the owner of the building is primarily responsible for ensuring the property is vacated and would be liable for any injuries sustained by those living there due to the status of the building. To date, there have been no reported injuries.
