Two fires were reported to the Holbrook Police Department during the period of Jan. 29 – Feb. 11, according to dispatcher reports.

At approximately 5:46 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29, an officer responded to a report of a dumpster fire in the alleyway south of the 2200 block of Navajo Blvd. Flames from the fire had dripped from the metal dumpster onto dry foliage. The Holbrook Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire.

At approximately 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, an officer spotted heavy smoke between Erie Street and Florida Street and found the source to be an abandoned trailer at 134 E. Erie St. Another officer arrived and they attempted to enter the trailer to search for anyone that may be inside, but due to concerns of a flash over, evacuated the space. The trailer became engulfed in flames and HVFD handled the situation while residents living at the Veterans Services facility, located at 720 Navajo Blvd. were evacuated as a safety precaution. After the fire was extinguished, no bodies were discovered in the trailer. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
