Eugene Clark Hansen

Eugene Clark Hansen, 88, of Joseph City passed away at home, surrounded by family, on Dec. 3, 2019. Gene was born April 24, 1931, in Joseph City to Joseph Delbert and Alice Hansen.

A viewing will be held at 9 a.m. followed by funeral services at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Joseph City.

He took piano lessons as a child and this skill became a core part of Eugene’s identity throughout his life. After attending grade school in Joseph City, Gene graduated from Holbrook High School in 1949. Later, he attended BYU, studying Animal Husbandry. After returning home, Gene met and married Eleanor Fuller. Together, they raised seven children in Joseph City where Eugene partnered with his brother, Floyd, on Hansen Brothers Farm and Midway Dairy. Eugene was relied upon for his expertise in various fields including farming, ranching, building, health and construction.

Eugene was an accomplished organist and passed many happy hours building and playing his organs. His favorite church callings involved playing the organ, especially in the Snowflake Temple. A life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gene dedicated his life to service and served as a religious volunteer for 22 years at the Arizona Department of Corrections Winslow Complex.

His greatest accomplishment is his family. He is survived by his wife of 65 years; sons, Gale (Anna) Hansen, Gary (Ruth) Hansen, Derron (Cat) Hansen and Clarence (Trina) Hansen; daughters, Cheryl (Tom) Tysseling, Lillian (Brad) Neal and Julie Clifford; 24 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert, Ross and Floyd, and great-granddaughter Laynee.

His family treasures his dry humor, wisdom, and firm testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
